Old Providence Methodist Church Cemetery

This cemetery is located at the site of the first Providence church building, then called Providence Methodist Episcopal Church. All but one headstone in the Old Providence cemetery (also called the Chapel Hill Cemetery) are no longer there or visible. It is believed that up to 35 graves are located in this cemetery. The remaining headstone is that of James E. Sansbury, who died on January 10, 1871.[1]
NOTE: Several of the people listed below were known to be buried at the Old Providence cemetery, while others were discovered in funeral home records. Because the additional names were not mentioned on a Providence cemetery plot map, it is assumed that they are buried here due to their date of death and family connection.
