Knocked overboard by a swinging boom on his sailboat traveling from Washington D.C. to his home near Fort Washington, Maryland. The tug “Mary Lewis” saw it happen and threw him a rope, but he was unable to grab it and drown.
Close Family also in the Same Cemetery: Samuel is not shown on the “new” cemetery plot map, so it is assumed that he was buried in the older cemetery. A letter sent to the church in 1996 alerted us of this burial.
