Military Service: John served during the Civil War in the Comanches, White’s 35th Battalion, Virginia Cavalry, Company C. He enlisted 1 October 1862 in Snickersville. He was captured after 20 days, paroled at Fort Henry, and sent to Aiken’s Landing. Wounded on 9 June 1863 at Brandy Station. He was again captured 9 June 1864, sent to Atheneum Prison and then Camp Chase. John was released on 2 June 1865.
